7. Recognition of Smiley Face Copyright
Smiley Face selected as new face for commemorative stamp issued by U.S. Postal Service

Huge support from the American public has installed the Smiley Face, as a symbol of the 1970s, on a commemorative stamp to be issued by the U.S. Postal Service in 1999. The Smiley Face stamp was first unveiled at World Smile Day, an event held in Harvey Ball's hometown of Worcester, Massachusetts. Thanking Harvey Ball for his creation, a representative from the Postal Service said it was only apt that the stamp be unveiled in Worcester, the birthplace of the mark and hometown of Harvey Ball, the creator of the Smiley Face. Those in Worcester were the first in the United States to see the new stamp.
